What is Sustainable Agriculture?

Sustainable Agriculture is the managed growing of crops minimizing the negative impact on the environment, improving soil health, increasing biological diversity, and controlling pests. Sustainable agriculture is dependant on a whole system approach having as its focus the long term health of the land. Sustainable Agriculture concentrates on long term solutions to problems instead of short term treatment of symptoms. The use of chemicals and similar inputs are reduced, the land develops biological diversity and resiliency that further reduces the need for agriculture chemicals.

A truly sustainable operation must be sustainable at three levels:

- Economically - generates sufficient equitable returns to support farm families and to provide an economic base for the surrounding community.

- Ecological - farming methods must be modeled on nature to foster energy flow, effective water and mineral cycles, and viable community dynamics.

- Socially - promotes the physical, spiritual, cultural, and economic health of families and communities.

Making the transition to Sustainable Practices

The transition to sustainable practices requires more responsibility for decision making on the part of the farmer, as well as access to appropriate and helpful information. At Sustainable Ag. Tech., Inc. we have made substantial investments in research and education. The result is products and services with a commitment to helping you make the transition successful.
